SCUBA Diving Information PDF  | Print |

fish.jpg Around the Whitsunday Islands, you find on the northern side of the northern most islands the marine life and coral formations are spectacular examples of the fringing reef that typifies the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.  This is exactly where Blue Pearl Bay is located; therefore it is considered one of the premier sites for diving.

From the time you wade into knee deep water, there are many varieties of fish around your ankles and within swimming a couple of metres off the beach, there is beautifully formed coral underneath you and a variety of colourful tropical fish swimming around you.

This makes Blue Pearl Bay, Hayman Island a perfect place for beginner or nervous divers as there are plenty of distractions straight away and this helps with nerves.

Medical Statement

Introductory divers need to sign a medical statement to say that they do not currently suffer from or have a history of: asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, lung, heart or ear conditions / illnesses. A medical certificate from a doctor may be required for any pre-existing medical conditions otherwise they may be precluded from Diving.

Resort / Introductory Divers

coral1.jpg The introductory or ‘resort’ dive provides the chance for people who have never tried scuba diving before, to experience the wonders of diving on the reef under the guidance of an experienced dive instructor who knows the area well.

The introductory diver will firstly be given a brief whilst sailing to Blue Pearl Bay that explains some basic skills and what to expect from your dive so as to make the introductory diver safe and comfortable with their first diving experience.

Once at Blue Pearl Bay, the introductory diver may snorkel first and meet the dive instructor on the beach, ready for their adventure to begin. The introductory diver will practice skills in waist deep water until they are comfortable before commencing the tour of the reef. They will then explore this beautiful underwater world and see wall to wall coral formation in all of its intricate detail.

coral2.jpgThe introductory dive is a very beautiful and simple experience and will bring so much to the passenger’s Whitsunday experience. The dive instructor is there to take care of them as much or as little as they require at the time… they can even hold the dive instructor’s hand for the entire duration of the dive!

Group size:           4 people per introductory dive
Dive tour time:     30 minutes (approx)    Depth:  4 - 8 metres

Certified Divers

divers.jpg For certified divers, there is a guided dive available that is under the supervision of our experienced dive instructor who knows the area very well. The dive is usually a one-way dive going with the current. There are over hangs and crevices to explore, swim throughs and huge heads of stunning coral. The marine life is very impressive with anemones, sea cucumbers, starfish, and nudi branches just to name a few sightings on the tour. The dive instructor will simply guide you around and point out different marine life of interest as you go along to ensure that you get the most out of your dive.  Toward the end of the dive, our fish feeding normally attracts our resident Maori Wrasse and a view of some brilliant giant clam before ascending to the beach where the diver then can continue the experience by snorkelling.

Dive time:     40 minutes        Depth:  14 metres approx
